During five summers from 1957 to 1961, the five-member Barstow family of Wethersfield, Connecticut, set out to visit all 48 of the then United States of America on a series of month-long camping trips. Part I includes seeing famous sites from "America's History" in 24 Eastern, Northern, and Southern states. (58 Minutes)

Mr. Barstow, my hat is off to you. I'm impressed by your novel approaches to both camping vacations and home movies, the way you integrate education and information into the endeavors, the scrolled titles and editing work, plus which everyone seems to be having such fun. Mixes general nostalgia with vital information and personal glimses of your family. An indelible document of '50s life. Thanks for sharing it with us all

Subject: how it just was
I watched both parts, being 54 years old, and Canadian, my parents would take us every year on holidays in Canada and The USA. They would also use their film camera to record . After watching this film, it brought back vivid memories of that time. It also reminded me of how it was, and how families ventured out to have adventures and enjoy holidays. a lot of which is sadly missing in society today.Thank you for sharing your memories, and giving us all the chance to see the wonderment throughout your journey.

Excellent; brought back a lot of memories of my own dad and his Sears tent, although we didn't travel as widely as your family did. I wish there was stuff like this on t.v instead of those "reality shows."

Wow, mister you're really cool!! I wish I could've gone camping with ya! Sounds like lots of fun! I just went camping for the very first time at Sequioa National Park & Yosemite. I loved it! Imagine in the fifties, even better, like a million times better! Great piece of history!
